CCIR defends Mykonos flight as investment mission amid Romexpo land dispute

The Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Romania (CCIR) has defended a private flight to Mykonos on July 8, stating its sole purpose was to attract foreign investment to the country. The CCIR expressed regret over the politicization of the issue, noting that the trip aimed to present investment advantages to high-caliber investors amidst external concerns regarding labor legislation and legal stability. The institution clarified that all expenses, including travel, were covered by its own revenues.

The flight included several high-profile figures, such as former Prime Minister Victor Ponta, former Labor Minister Petre-Florin Manole, and Constitutional Court judge Cristian Deliorga.

This trip has emerged amidst a significant legal and political dispute regarding the ownership of 46 hectares of land at Romexpo. The CCIR is seeking full ownership of the land rather than just usage rights to develop a major real estate complex. While the Constitutional Court previously ruled in favor of the CCIR regarding the transfer of state land, the legislative process has faced opposition from political parties like USR and UDMR, and the law has remained blocked following a refusal by President Klaus Iohannis to promulgate it.
