CCOO demands employment and housing guarantees for Roca City Alcalá
The CCOO labor union has criticized the ‘Roca City Alcalá’ project, arguing that the current proposal prioritizes real estate speculation over employment stability and social housing. The union is calling on the Community of Madrid and local authorities to secure commitments that protect the industrial future of the area and provide housing solutions for the community.
Specifically, CCOO is demanding protections for at least 1,500 households regarding public housing, with a goal of 1,000 units designated for affordable rent. The union also seeks guarantees to maintain the jobs associated with the Roca plant.
To support its position, CCOO compared the Alcalá project to similar developments in Gavà and Viladecans, Catalonia. In those locations, the union claims agreements were reached to maintain or expand employment and ensure that 46% of the 2,731 new homes include some form of public protection, with 33% of the total housing stock dedicated to affordable rentals.
