CCOO leader demands removal of investment funds from housing market
Unai Sordo, the Secretary General of Comisiones Obreras (CCOO), has called for drastic legal and fiscal measures to remove investment funds and “vulture funds” from the Spanish residential housing market. Speaking at a regional committee meeting in Villarrobledo, Sordo argued that housing should be used for living rather than as a business for large corporations.
To make the accumulation of properties unprofitable, Sordo proposed modifying existing laws and implementing tax policies that would render speculative business models unviable. He specifically criticized the use of residential properties for tourism and advocated for rent price caps, the construction of affordable housing, and the prohibition of non-residential uses for homes.
Additionally, the union leader addressed the issue of evictions, calling for the return of the anti-eviction decree to Congress. He emphasized that no person should be displaced from their home without a guaranteed housing alternative, citing a recent case involving an 87-year-old woman in Madrid.
