CCU workers protest mileage allowance cuts in Chile

Workers from the CCU beverage holding, owned by Grupo Luksic, held a peaceful protest in Santiago's Providencia district on August 20. The mobilization was triggered by what labor leaders called ‘el bencinazo’, referring to a sudden reduction in mileage allowances for sales employees. In some instances, these payments were cut by up to 50%, impacting staff who use personal vehicles for work.

Rodrigo Oyarzún, President of the National Federation of CCU Workers (FNT-CCU), stated that the management's inability to handle the mileage issue escalated existing tensions. He noted that the protest is also a response to broader concerns, including labor overload, successive layoffs, and an upcoming commercial merger between Pisquera de Chile and Viña San Pedro, which workers claim could eliminate 50% of jobs in those areas.
