Traffic restrictions active in several Colombian and Ecuadorian cities

Several major cities in Colombia and Ecuador are implementing or maintaining 'pico y placa' traffic restriction measures on Tuesday, September 1, 2026, to manage urban congestion.

In Quito, Ecuador, cars and motorcycles with license plates ending in 3 and 4 are restricted during two windows: 06:00 to 09:30 and 16:00 to 20:00. Exemptions include electric vehicles, official government cars, and vehicles for seniors or people with disabilities.

In Colombia, Medellín is restricting private vehicles with plates ending in 1 and 4, and motorcycles with the first digit 1 or 4, between 05:00 and 20:00. Bucaramanga is restricting plates ending in 9 and 0 from 06:00 to 20:00, while taxis with plates ending in 3 and 4 are restricted from 07:00 to 21:00.

In Cali, the city has returned to its standard two-digit rotation following emergency measures related to a recent earthquake. Meanwhile, in Bogotá, traffic is being impacted by protests and demonstrations on the Avenida Ciudad de Cali, causing delays for TransMilenio routes.
