CD Projekt RED announces free The Witcher 3 Remastered update

CD Projekt RED has announced that The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt will receive a free Remastered update on September 29, 2026. The update will be available for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S users, with existing owners of the original version receiving the upgrade at no additional cost.

Executive producer Jakub Kutrzuba stated that the studio has rebuilt various areas of the 2015 title to eliminate mechanical flaws and modernize the experience. Key improvements include overhauled gameplay mechanics, skill progression, character animations, and improved enemy artificial intelligence. Technical updates also include redesigned pathfinding systems and updated camera behavior.

New features include a transmogrification system, allowing players to maintain specific aesthetics while wearing high-defense armor, and an expanded Photo Mode. For Xbox users, the remaster will support Xbox Play Anywhere, enabling cross-platform play between consoles and PC. Players who own the base game on supported platforms will also receive the Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine expansions if they do not already own them.
