CD Projekt Red announces The Witcher 3 remaster and new expansion

CD Projekt Red has announced several major updates for The Witcher franchise. A remastered version of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is scheduled for release on September 29, 2026, featuring improved graphics, lighting, and combat systems. This remaster will be a free upgrade for existing owners and will support platforms including PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and will debut natively on Nintendo Switch 2 and Steam Deck.

Additionally, a new paid expansion titled ‘Songs of the Past’ is in development by CD Projekt Red and Fool’s Theory. Set in the new region of Letten, the expansion is expected to launch in 2027 and will offer approximately twenty hours of gameplay.

Regarding the future of the series, CD Projekt Red confirmed that Ciri will be the protagonist of The Witcher 4, though Geralt of Rivia will maintain an important role. Development of The Witcher 4 is utilizing Unreal Engine 5, which has also caused a temporary pause in the development of The Witcher 1 remake due to technological dependencies. The studio also noted that while a physical edition for The Witcher 4 is planned, the inclusion of a disc may depend on future hardware policies from Sony.
