CD Projekt RED announces The Witcher 3 Remastered update

CD Projekt RED has announced a free remaster of The Witcher 3, scheduled for release on September 29 for existing owners of the original game. Executive Producer Jakub Kutrzuba stated that the goal is to modernize the experience to compete with the standards of 2026, moving beyond the technical scope of previous next-gen updates.

Unlike previous patches that focused primarily on console compatibility, this remaster targets core gameplay elements that have remained unchanged since launch. Key improvements include the animation system, camera management, enemy combat behavior, and character pathfinding.

The developers are also implementing various quality-of-life improvements to reduce player frustration and remove obstacles that make the game feel dated. The project aims to enhance the experience as much as possible without rebuilding the title from scratch. Additionally, the remaster is expected to perform well on the Steam Deck.
