CD Projekt Red bets on The Witcher 4 and Unreal Engine 5

Polish developer CD Projekt Red is centering its post‑Cyberpunk recovery on The Witcher 4, codenamed Polaris, which will run on Epic Games’ Unreal Engine 5 after the studio abandoned its REDengine. A 15‑year strategic partnership with Epic was announced at Unreal Fest 2025, where a tech demo showed 60 fps performance on PS5 and highlighted features such as FastGeo Streaming, Nanite foliage and advanced AI.

The studio plans a 2027‑or‑later launch for The Witcher 4, launching a new six‑year trilogy while also advancing Cyberpunk 2, a Witcher remake and other projects. Co‑CEO Michał Nowakowski said, "I'm not 100 percent convinced we went through the full redemption arc," and added, "Our dream is to create more games, but we don't want to become a studio that publishes a big title every year." He emphasized a long‑term, roughly ten‑year roadmap that prioritises quality over quantity, aiming to increase output without flooding the market.
