CD Projekt Red commemorates Witcher 2 and Witcher 3 anniversaries with muted messages
Polish developer CD Projekt Red marked the 15th anniversary of The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings on 17 May, posting a custom artwork of Geralt and Letho on X and sharing memories from staff members such as Pawel Sasko, Marcin Momot, Philipp Weber and director Sebastian Kalemba. The studio highlighted the game’s lasting impact, noting it has sold 15 million copies worldwide as of January.
The same day also fell on the 11th anniversary of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. The company’s communication was far more restrained, with only a brief acknowledgement from Momot calling the title a classic and Kalemba offering a short “Na zdrowie!” toast. Fans expressed disappointment, hoping for news of a third expansion that never materialised. The silence sparked speculation about upcoming projects: Yigsoft is said to be developing a new title on the retired REDengine, while Witcher 4 and a remake of the first game are planned for Unreal Engine 5.
Overall, the anniversaries prompted reflection on the series’ legacy and hinted at future technical shifts, but no new content was announced.
