CD Projekt RED to produce original Cyberpunk 2077 live-action film

CD Projekt RED has confirmed that its upcoming live-action film set in the Cyberpunk 2077 universe will not be a direct adaptation of the video game's plot. Co-CEO Michał Nowakowski stated that the production aims to tell an original story within the established setting rather than providing a “one-to-one translation” of the game's narrative involving characters like V and Johnny Silverhand.

The project is a collaboration between CD Projekt RED and Paramount Pictures, with Skydance also involved following a recent merger. Lorenzo di Bonaventura, known for producing the “Transformers” franchise, is attached as a producer. This creative direction follows the approach taken by the successful Netflix anime “Cyberpunk: Edgerunners,” which expanded the franchise by exploring new characters within Night City.

Nowakowski noted that the partnership with Paramount arose after a previous agreement with Anonymous Content expired. While specific details regarding the plot, cast, director, or release date have not been disclosed, the studio views the film as a key step in evolving Cyberpunk into a global multimedia brand.
