CD Projekt RED confirms original story for Cyberpunk 2077 film

CD Projekt RED has confirmed that the upcoming live-action Cyberpunk 2077 film will not be a direct adaptation of the video game's storyline. Co-CEO Michał Nowakowski stated that the project aims to tell an original story set within the Cyberpunk universe rather than a one-to-one reproduction of the game's campaign involving the character V.

The production intends to utilize the narrative possibilities of Night City to explore new characters and situations while maintaining the established themes and atmosphere of the franchise. This approach mirrors the strategy used for the anime series 'Cyberpunk: Edgerunners', which featured original characters within the game's world.

The film is being developed through a partnership involving Paramount Pictures, following previous collaborations with Anonymous Content. Lorenzo di Bonaventura, known for the 'Transformers' series, is serving as a producer on the project.
