CD Projekt Red explains policy behind limited game crossovers
CD Projekt Red has addressed why its characters, such as Geralt from The Witcher, appear in other game franchises like Diablo 4, while content from those franchises does not appear in CD Projekt Red titles.
During BlizzCon, Miles Tost, Level Design Lead at CD Projekt Red, explained that the studio follows a strict policy regarding content exclusivity. He stated that the company avoids creating content that is exclusive to specific stores or platforms, ensuring that all players receive the “full version” of a game regardless of where they purchase it.
While CD Projekt Red has historically provided physical rewards for pre-orders on specific platforms, they avoid digital content that could fragment the player experience based on purchase location. Tost noted that while they have not specifically considered bringing Diablo-inspired content into The Witcher, the studio remains “open to finding great ways to collaborate” in the future.
