CD Projekt Red delays Witcher 3 DLC “Songs of the Past” to 2027

Polish developer CD Projekt Red announced that the expansion “Songs of the Past” for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt will now be released in 2027, pushing back the original 2026 schedule. The delay is intended to avoid direct competition with the upcoming launch of Grand Theft Auto 6 and to give the DLC greater media visibility. A demo is planned for late summer 2026, and the studio said the extra time will be used to refine gameplay and optimize the content for modern platforms.

In a separate discussion, lead narrative designer Artur Ganszyniec reflected on a controversial feature from the original Witcher game – collectible romance cards that replaced animated cut‑scenes. He acknowledged that the mechanic sometimes fell short and was a cost‑saving solution, but he does not consider it a source of shame for the studio. The comments illustrate how early design constraints shaped the series and how CD Projekt Red’s development approaches have evolved over time.
