CD Projekt Red questions the future of fully AI‑generated video games

CD Projekt Red executive Michał Nowakowski told the EDGE Knowledge newsletter that a studio relying primarily on artificial intelligence can produce dozens of game prototypes in a matter of weeks – for example, 40 prototypes in a single week and a handful of selectable titles ready for launch within three weeks. While acknowledging the speed such tools bring, Nowakowski expressed skepticism about the sustainability, quality and overall desirability of a development model that builds games entirely with AI.

The Polish studio, known for The Witcher series and Cyberpunk 2077, emphasizes that its current use of AI is limited to productivity‑related tasks rather than creating full‑game content. CD Projekt Red has recently hired 50 additional developers, underscoring its commitment to human talent as it prepares for The Witcher 4 and continues to rebuild trust after the troubled launch of Cyberpunk 2077. The comments reflect broader industry debate in 2026 about the impact of AI on creativity, quality control and player engagement.
