CD Projekt Red reduces Project Sirius team amid development shifts

CD Projekt Red has confirmed a new round of layoffs and staff reassignments affecting Project Sirius, the multiplayer spin-off set in The Witcher universe. The company stated it adjusted the team size to reflect the project’s needs at its current stage of development.

The reduction involves nine employees: four from the Boston office and five from the Warsaw headquarters. Additionally, nine other developers have been invited to apply for internal roles on different projects within the company. This brings the total headcount for Project Sirius down from 83 as of April 30 to approximately 65.

This is not the first time the project has faced restructuring. In 2023, the project underwent a significant reboot following a reassessment of its scope and commercial potential, which resulted in 29 layoffs. Project Sirius, originally developed by The Molasses Flood before its acquisition and full integration into CD Projekt Red, is intended to be a hybrid single-player and multiplayer experience.

Despite these changes, CD Projekt Red maintains that development is ongoing. The studio is currently managing several major titles, including The Witcher 4, a Cyberpunk 2077 sequel, and a new IP called Project Hadar.
