CD Projekt Red revamps documentation process for The Witcher 4 and Cyberpunk 2

CD Projekt Red admitted that insufficient technical documentation hampered past projects such as the original The Witcher games and Cyberpunk 2077. Lead and senior technical writers highlighted the loss of knowledge from early titles and the chaotic state of over 8,000 pages of documentation, which was split between cloud and internal servers during the Phantom Liberty expansion.

At a Digital Dragons panel the studio announced a new development framework that makes comprehensive documentation a required gate before advancing a production phase. The system will centralise knowledge, enforce clear completion criteria, and allow solutions found on one project (e.g., The Witcher 4) to be leveraged by others (e.g., Cyberpunk 2). The aim is to prevent repeated problem‑solving, preserve expertise across teams, and support the larger, more international studio structure for upcoming titles.
