CD Projekt Red details development shifts for Cyberpunk 2077 and Witcher 3
CD Projekt Red developers have shared insights into the production processes for their major titles, focusing on the lessons learned from the initial launch of Cyberpunk 2077. Lead Quest Designer Pawel Sasko noted that the development of the Phantom Liberty expansion served as a corrective measure, utilizing a new multidisciplinary team structure known as ‘pods’ to avoid the issues encountered during the base game's development.
Sasko highlighted that the studio improved narrative clarity by ensuring player choices have more visible consequences, a lesson drawn from the success of The Witcher 3. Additionally, the creation of the Chimera boss in Phantom Liberty reportedly took two years and involved four major redesigns to balance gameplay, narrative, and visual elements.
Separately, the studio is also working on a remaster of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. While the remaster aims to modernize the visual presentation for current hardware, early reviews suggest the updated aesthetic features a more muted color palette and softer visuals compared to the original title.
