Cádiz archaeological discovery halts construction at Tolosa Latour

Archaeological remains, including five burials and significant Punic and Roman ceramic materials, have been discovered at the Tolosa Latour site in Cádiz, Spain. The findings were uncovered during the demolition of an old administrative building intended to make way for a new project by the Junta de Andalucía.

The discovery has halted construction progress. While two of the five burials have been excavated, the site remains covered pending a full-scale archaeological excavation. A 17-month excavation process is required to study the remains and clear the foundations of the previous structure before the new building, designed by the firm Ayesa, can proceed.

Efforts to secure a contractor for the excavation have faced delays, with officials investigating a potential technical failure in the digital bidding system after the most recent call for proposals yielded no offers.
