Cádiz bus accident trial set for September 22

The trial regarding the fatal bus accident in Cádiz, which occurred in October 2023, is scheduled to take place on September 22 and 23. The incident, which took place near the Constitution of 1812 Bridge, resulted in the deaths of four people: two youths aged 17 and 19, a 60-year-old woman, and an 86-year-old man.

The prosecution is seeking five years of prison for both the bus driver and the owner of the transport company for the crime of homicide through gross negligence. Investigators allege the vehicle had significant braking system deficiencies dating back to 2021.

Specific allegations against the company owner include failure to maintain the vehicle and potentially manipulating the rear axle to bypass inspection detections. The driver faces accusations of distracted driving, excessive speed, and failure to adhere to mandatory rest periods. Additionally, the prosecution is seeking more than 500,000 euros in compensation for the victims' families.
