Cádiz Cathedral begins restoration of West Tower
Restoration work is progressing on the West Tower of the Cádiz Cathedral as part of a comprehensive project to restore both towers of the temple. This initiative is included in the 2% Cultural Program of the Ministry of Housing and Urban Agenda.
The first phase, which began in June, focuses on the West Tower. Due to the tower's dimensions and architectural characteristics, the project involves complex planning to ensure safety and proper intervention. Current activities include the assembly of auxiliary equipment, cleaning the upper exterior sections, and opening oculi within the tower.
Work is also being conducted on the interior and the space between the vaults, which includes removing inadequate coatings to improve conservation. The project aims to preserve the historical and artistic heritage of the Diocese of Cádiz and enhance one of the most iconic elements of the city's urban landscape.
