Cádiz City Council seeks Ministry approval for 275 social housing units
The Cádiz City Council is reiterating a proposal to the Spanish Ministry of Housing to utilize two former public school sites—Adolfo de Castro in Cerro del Moro and Carmen Jiménez in Astilleros-San Severiano—for the construction of 275 social housing units.
Local officials note that the land, which became available due to declining birth rates, is a critical resource in an area with nearly exhausted urban development options. The municipal government seeks to tap into the ‘España Crece’ sovereign fund, an initiative announced by the central government intended to mobilize 23,000 million euros to finance the construction of 15,000 homes annually across Spain.
The People's Party (PP) in Cádiz has criticized the central government's silence regarding the June proposal, arguing that the lack of response contradicts national commitments to increase public housing stock and address the housing crisis affecting young people and families in the province.
