Cádiz coastal towns see massive summer population surges
Coastal municipalities in the province of Cádiz are experiencing significant population surges due to summer tourism. In Chipiona, the population increases from a permanent base of approximately 20,000 to around 200,000 residents during the peak summer months. Mayor Luis Mario Aparcero has requested additional funding to manage the increased pressure on public services, including local police and sanitation, noting that hotel occupancy for the first half of August is projected at 93%.
Similarly, Chiclana reported a record population peak in July, with an estimated 252,823 residents. This figure, calculated based on municipal waste collection data, exceeds previous summer records. Mayor José María Román noted that the municipality collects significantly more waste during this period compared to previous years, reflecting the influx of visitors. Chiclana also reported high hotel occupancy rates exceeding 92.4% during the month.
