Cádiz Court acquits woman for racist insults against doctor in Jerez

The Provincial Court of Cádiz has acquitted a woman who directed racist insults toward a Dominican doctor at a health center in Jerez de la Frontera. The woman reportedly used racial slurs after being told she had to wait for medical attention.

This ruling overturns a previous decision by the Criminal Court 2 of Jerez de la Frontera, which had sentenced the defendant to two years in prison for assault and a two-month fine for injury. Following an appeal by the defense, the Provincial Court revised the proven facts and determined there were insufficient grounds to punish the woman for the specific crimes of assault and injury charged.

While the court acquitted her of those specific charges, the presiding magistrate noted that the actions could potentially constitute hate crimes or offenses against moral integrity.
