Cádiz firefighters head to Ávila to combat Spain's largest wildfire

The Consorcio de Bomberos de la Provincia de Cádiz mobilised a special operation of 16 firefighters, led by a sergeant, and five vehicles – a command 4x4, a transport van and three heavy rural pump trucks. The unit departed from the Jerez de la Frontera fire station around 22:30 and will first reach the village of El Barraco, with an advanced command post set up in Navaluenga, to assist in extinguishing the Burgohondo fire in Ávila.

The deployment follows a request from the Diputación de Ávila, coordinated through the Asociación de Consorcios y Servicios de Bomberos de España (Conbé). The blaze in Burgohondo has already exceeded 50,000 ha, and when combined with fires in Madrid and Toledo the total burned area surpasses 75,000 ha. More than 90,000 residents remain evacuated or confined as high temperatures and strong winds hinder firefighting efforts. The dispatch was formally signed off by José Ortiz, president of the Cádiz fire consortium, Almudena Martínez, president of the Cádiz provincial council, and María José García‑Pelayo, mayor of Jerez.
