Cádiz fish market generates 20 million euros in first half of year
The fish market in Cádiz, managed by the Autoridad Portuaria de la Bahía de Cádiz (APBC), has generated over 20.6 million euros in the first half of the year. Fresh fish remains one of the most profitable commodities in the facility.
A significant portion of this revenue comes from black hake (Merluccius senegalensis), which is sourced from fishing grounds in Mauritania. The Cádiz market is noted as the only one in Spain that auctions this specific species.
Despite the high economic value, the sector faces challenges regarding generational renewal. Workers report harsh physical conditions, including long hours at sea and exposure to extreme weather, which complicates the recruitment of new personnel to sustain the industry.
