Cádiz hosts historical program on its role as a global trade hub

The city of Cádiz is hosting a week-long series of events titled ‘Cádiz, Ciudad-Mundo: La Forja de un Emporio’ from September 12 to 18. The program focuses on the city's historical role as a global commercial hub during the Early Modern period, specifically its connections to the Americas and Asia.

The event includes academic conferences featuring researchers from the University of Cádiz, the University of Navarra, and the University of Seville. Topics will cover maritime navigation, trade monopolies with the West Indies and the East Indies, 18th-century society, and the city's musical heritage.

In conjunction with the lectures, the Municipal Tourism Delegation has organized free guided walking tours. These include the ‘Siglo de Oro Gaditano’ routes and tours dedicated to the ‘Cargadores a Indias’. Participants can register in person at the Cádiz Tourism Office to explore the city's economic and cultural history.
