Cádiz municipal government reverses urban bus route decision
The municipal government of Cádiz has reversed its decision regarding the urban bus service Line 2. Following citizen demands, the administration modified the tender specifications for the new service, which is valued at 212 million euros over twelve years. The change ensures the continuity of the current route through Campo del Sur, a move that follows significant administrative delays spanning over a decade across different political administrations.
This shift occurs as the city prepares to implement its Low Emission Zone (ZBE) by December 31, a mandate from the central government aimed at reducing private vehicle usage in favor of pedestrians and public transit. The city expects to exceed 13 million bus passengers this year, highlighting the critical role of public transport in managing urban mobility and congestion within the city's compact residential area.
