Cádiz residents and university protest new bus line 2 route

Citizens, university members, and neighborhood associations in Cádiz are protesting a proposed redesign of the city's urban bus service, specifically regarding the new Line 2. The plan involves merging the current Lines 2 and 3 into a single Line 2, which would eliminate the existing route through Campo del Sur and parts of the maritime and university perimeter of the historic center.

Critics argue the change will sever direct connections between outlying residential areas and key locations such as La Viña, the University of Cádiz, Alameda, and Parque Genovés. While the Mayor, Bruno García, has defended the plan by highlighting increased service frequencies, protesters argue that higher frequency does not compensate for the loss of direct routes that currently prevent the need for transfers.

A petition organized by the university community has already gathered over 1,100 signatures. The movement emphasizes that the modification will disproportionately affect students, workers, and residents in densely populated areas like Segunda Aguada, San Severiano, and the vicinity of the Puerta del Mar Hospital.
