CDMOs adopt flexible platforms to streamline bioprocessing and microsphere production
Contract development and manufacturing organizations (CDMOs) are increasingly utilizing flexible bioprocessing platforms to manage diverse client demands and streamline production scales.
In upstream bioprocessing, integrated hardware and software solutions, such as the Eppendorf BioBLU single-use bioreactor portfolio, allow for consistent process control from research and development through to commercial manufacturing. These systems aim to reduce variables during scale-up, minimize user training requirements, and automate data management to improve product yield and quality.
Similarly, in the production of drug-loaded microspheres, new technologies like interchangeable mesh assemblies allow a single refiner platform to handle various formulations. This approach enables operators to achieve different particle size specifications without requiring dedicated equipment for every new drug formulation, potentially reducing capital expenditure and scale-up risks in a market for drug delivery systems projected to exceed $10 billion by 2033.
