CDSCO cancels FatX registration over misleading product claims

The Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation (CDSCO) has cancelled the registration of FatX due to discrepancies between the product’s approved label and claims made on the company’s official website.

The regulator found that the company marketed the product as a treatment to dissolve and reduce the size of fat cells. The CDSCO determined these assertions constitute drug claims rather than cosmetic claims, which are defined under the Drugs and Cosmetics Act, 1940, as products intended for cleansing, beautifying, or altering appearance.

The cancellation follows a show-cause notice issued on August 10, 2026, regarding violations of the Drugs and Cosmetics Act and Rule 36 of the Cosmetics Rules, 2020, which prohibits false or misleading claims. The company’s response to the notice was deemed inconclusive and unsatisfactory by the Licensing Authority.
