CDU candidate Corinna Jodeit sparks controversy with necklace

Corinna Jodeit, a 38-year-old CDU candidate running for the Wildeshausen city council in Lower Saxony, has sparked national debate due to a necklace featured on her campaign posters. The gold accessory bears the inscription ‘Milf’, an English acronym with origins in pornographic contexts used to describe sexually attractive older women.

Jodeit, a craft entrepreneur, stated that the ten-year-old piece of jewelry is a conscious choice intended to represent independence and strength. While acknowledging the accessory is ‘naturally provocative’, she emphasized that she is happy to be a mother but is ‘not just that’. She noted that removing the necklace for the posters would have felt inauthentic.

The campaign has drawn mixed reactions on social media, ranging from criticism calling the appearance ‘embarrassing’ to sexualized comments, as well as support from other users. Jodeit indicated that the criticism has affected her, but she does not intend to withdraw her candidacy. The local elections in Lower Saxony are scheduled for September 13.
