CDU enables executive recomposition in Quinta do Anjo
The CDU (PCP/PEV coalition) has enabled the recomposition of the executive body in the Quinta do Anjo Parish Council, located in the municipality of Palmela, following a two-month political impasse. The decision was reached during an extraordinary meeting of the Parish Assembly, where the motion passed with four votes in favor, five abstentions, and three against.
By choosing to abstain, the CDU aims to resolve the instability that has hindered the council's ability to function. The coalition clarified that the abstention is a strategic measure to allow the winning political force, Chega, to implement its measures, rather than an endorsement of President Nuno Valente’s policies. The crisis was previously exacerbated by the resignation of three elected officials, which left the executive without a quorum and unable to pursue new investments.
With this recomposition, Nuno Valente will lead a team including new members Miguel Ferreira da Silva Alves, Carlos Alberto Borges Paulo, and Dulce Isabel Fernandes Martins de Azeredo. Despite facilitating the return to governance, the CDU has pledged to maintain rigorous scrutiny over the executive's activities.
