CDU Mecklenburg-Vorpommern adopts new state election program ahead of September vote

On the first day of the CDU Mecklenburg‑Vorpommern’s 41st state party conference in Linstow, delegates approved a revised election program for the 2026 state election with an overwhelming majority. The programme, the result of a months‑long citizen consultation process, stresses more security, better education, a stronger economy and reduced bureaucracy. Concrete proposals include expanded Baukindergeld, an apprenticeship premium and a “Lappenprämie” for young families.

The 120‑page draft is divided into ten sections covering economy, security, education and other policy areas. Party chairman and lead candidate Daniel Peters, who has headed the state party since April 2024, presented the document. Federal CDU leader and Chancellor Friedrich Merkz is slated to speak on Saturday. An Infratest‑dimap poll for NDR in May showed the CDU at about 10 % support, three points lower than in January, marking its historically weakest performance in Mecklenburg‑Vorpommern.
