CDU members in Großbeeren issue urgent letter to Friedrich Merz

Thirty-three members of the CDU in Großbeeren, a local stronghold in Brandenburg, have issued an urgent letter to party leader Friedrich Merz. The group, which includes Mayor Martin Wonneberger, is calling for stronger leadership and a re-evaluation of current party policies.

The letter follows the CDU’s significant loss in the Saxony-Anhalt state election, where the party’s support dropped to 17.2 percent while the AfD achieved a major victory with 43.8 percent. The local members argue that the CDU is losing voters not because of sudden radicalization, but because citizens are losing trust in the ability of established politics to solve core issues.

The members expressed frustration over unfulfilled promises regarding economic stability, energy costs, migration management, and bureaucracy reduction. While the letter demands a change in direction and more effective leadership, the signatories stated they are not yet calling for Merz’s resignation.
