CDU proposes raising Germany's top income tax threshold

Carsten Linnemann, General Secretary of the CDU, has proposed an income tax reform aimed at increasing net pay for high earners. He suggests raising the threshold for the top tax rate of 42 percent to an annual income of 80,000 euros, up from the current threshold of approximately 69,879 euros.

Linnemann intends to bring this topic to the agenda for discussions with the SPD regarding health and pension reforms. While focusing on tax relief for higher income groups, he also emphasized the importance of reducing the burden on lower earners by stabilizing and potentially lowering social security contributions toward the 40 percent mark to ensure system stability.
