CDU proposes reliability checks for Berlin parliament staff

The CDU parliamentary group in the Berlin House of Representatives, led by Stefan Evers, has proposed a new law to implement reliability checks for employees of parliamentary groups and members of parliament. The draft legislation, which is to be presented to the SPD and the Greens, aims to make the capital parliament more secure and functional.

Under the proposal, assessments would include data from the State Office for the Protection of the Constitution, criminal records, and investigations by the State Criminal Police Office. Checks would occur every two years, reviewing whether individuals have been members of banned organizations or convicted of state security offenses within specific timeframes.

Parliamentary groups that refuse to dismiss employees deemed unreliable could face budget cuts. This initiative follows similar models implemented in Rhineland-Palatinate and Hessen.
