CEAMSE disputes UCLA report on methane emissions

CEAMSE has challenged the findings of a report by the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) regarding methane emissions at the Complejo Ambiental Norte III in Campo de Mayo, Argentina. The UCLA STOP Methane project, which utilized satellite observations, identified the facility as the world's largest methane emitter among landfills during 2025.

CEAMSE disputes these conclusions, citing methodological inconsistencies in the satellite-based analysis. The company argues that the ranking fails to account for essential variables such as the scale of the facility, temporal factors, and operational efficiency. CEAMSE noted that the complex processes approximately 18,000 tons of urban solid waste daily and has actively increased its biogas capture, reporting a rise from 13,800 m³/h in 2025 to 16,000 m³/h in the first quarter of 2026.

The company has submitted environmental engineering studies to UCLA and the UCLA Emmett Institute on Climate Change and the Environment to counter the report, though it stated it has not yet received a response.
