Ceará court maintains ALECE exam date despite fee exemption disputes
A court in Fortaleza has ruled that the exams for the Ceará Legislative Assembly (ALECE) will proceed as scheduled on August 16. The decision follows a public civil action by the Ceará Public Ministry regarding registration fee exemption procedures.
The 13th Treasury Court recognized that while system instabilities occurred during the exemption request period, there are insufficient grounds to reopen the general application deadline. However, the court ruled that candidates from public higher education institutions are entitled to exemptions if they meet other legal requirements.
As a result, the organizer IDECAN must re-evaluate denied exemption requests based on this specific criterion within 24 hours. The organizer is also required to register eligible candidates who have not yet paid the fee and refund those who paid after being incorrectly denied an exemption.
