Ceará Public Prosecutor's Office pushes municipal health and child‑protection reforms
The Ceará Public Prosecutor's Office (MPCE) issued a recommendation urging the municipality of Solonópole to adopt a comprehensive plan aimed at lowering infant mortality, which stands at 28 deaths per 1,000 live births – the second‑highest rate in the Central Sertão region. The plan calls for a monitoring and evaluation system covering prenatal care coverage, qualified birth attendance, justified cesarean rates and rapid neonatal emergency response, as well as an electronic data‑recording tool to track outcomes.
Separately, MPCE’s 3rd Promotoria in Tauá identified severe infrastructural deficiencies at the local Conselho Tutelar, including leaks, lack of accessibility and inadequate spaces for children and adolescents. The office recommended that the Tauá municipality present a suitable new location within 15 days and complete the relocation within 30 days, and also implement a training program for councilors to better protect minors’ rights.
