Ceará reports lowest poverty rates since 2012
The Brazilian state of Ceará has recorded its lowest absolute poverty levels since the beginning of the PNAD Contínua historical series in 2012. According to data from the Institute for Research and Economic Strategy of Ceará (Ipece), poverty indicators have declined for three consecutive years between 2023 and 2025.
Using World Bank income reference lines, the state saw reductions of 35%, 21%, and 13% across three different thresholds. These figures correspond to monthly per capita values of R$ 280, R$ 391, and R$ 774, adjusted to 2025 prices.
Social initiatives have supported this trend. The ‘Ceará Sem Fome’ program, which operates in all 184 municipalities, has distributed over 90 million meals over approximately three years and ten months. Additionally, organizations such as the Associação O Pequeno Nazareno in Fortaleza provide psychosocial support, human rights workshops, and professional training to vulnerable populations.
