CEBDS submits green agenda recommendations to Brazilian presidential candidates

The Brazilian Business Council for Sustainable Development (CEBDS) has presented a formal letter to the 2026 presidential candidates, urging the establishment of a permanent state policy for a green agenda. Representing over 110 large companies that account for approximately one-third of Brazil's GDP, the group organized its recommendations into three primary pillars.

The first pillar focuses on nature protection and restoration. Proposals include transitioning from combating deforestation to an “economy of restoration,” incentivizing soil recovery, and implementing low-emission agriculture with traceability. The group set specific targets, such as restoring 12 million hectares by 2030 and recovering 40 million hectares of pastureland over ten years, while committing to zero illegal deforestation by 2030.

The second pillar calls for productive transformation and green innovation. This includes expanding renewable energy, regulating energy storage, and strengthening transmission infrastructure. The council also advocates for reindustrialization through biofuels and electrification, alongside the development of a bioeconomy. The group emphasizes that a stable regulatory environment is essential to attract the investment necessary for these climate goals.
