Cebu port operators consider phased 25% cargo-handling tariff hike
The Port of Cebu Association of Cargo Handling Operators, Inc. (PCACHOI) has expressed openness to a phased implementation of its proposed 25% increase in domestic cargo-handling tariffs at Cebu port.
During a consultative meeting on September 29, 2026, involving the Cebu Port Authority (CPA) and various local chambers of commerce, PCACHOI representatives indicated a willingness to roll out the hike in tranches. This follows a suggestion from Felix Taguiam, the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry regional governor for Central Visayas, to stagger the increase due to current business conditions. PCACHOI stated that existing tariff rates are no longer sufficient to cover actual operating costs. Final positions regarding the proposal are expected to be submitted next week, after which the CPA will provide a policy recommendation.
