Dominican authorities seize RD$22.8 million in illegal fuel and cigarettes
Authorities in the Dominican Republic have seized fuel, equipment, and cigarettes valued at approximately RD$22.8 million during separate operations in María Trinidad Sánchez and Villa Altagracia.
In María Trinidad Sánchez, the Specialized Body for the Control of Fuels and Merchandise (CECCOM) dismantled a clandestine gas station operating at Transporte El Líder, SRL. The raid resulted in the seizure of 4,500 gallons of diesel, large metal tanks, and technical equipment including a suction pump and digital recorders, valued at RD$2,299,200. The station was operating without legal permits, violating multiple laws regarding hydrocarbons, environment, and health.
In a separate operation in Villa Altagracia, authorities intercepted a truck following a pursuit. They seized 1.8 million Capital brand cigarettes, valued at RD$20.5 million, which had been illegally introduced into the country. One individual, identified as José Alberto Abreu, was arrested, while the driver remains at large.
