Cecilia Patrón Laviada urges reporting of extortion in Mérida

Cecilia Patrón Laviada, the municipal president of Mérida, has urged citizens to report extortion attempts following a reported incident in Ciudad Caucel. A street vendor accused an individual of demanding weekly payments of 300 pesos to allow her to work, and subsequently using “caution” tape to simulate a business closure when she refused to pay.

Patrón Laviada clarified that the incident was not carried out by municipal staff and noted that the tape used was not official municipal equipment. She emphasized that all legitimate market inspectors carry official identification and instructed affected individuals to report such crimes through the Municipal Comptroller or during her weekly citizen meetings.
