Cecilia's 1976 Car Crash Marked on 50th Anniversary
Fifty years after the fatal car accident that killed Spanish singer Cecilia, new documents shed light on the 2 August 1976 crash in Colinas de Trasmonte. The vehicle, travelling on kilometre 13, carried Cecilia, drummer Carlos de la Iglesia and two other companions. Both the singer and the drummer died instantly.
The death certificate, accessed by La Opinión–El Correo de Zamora, records the time of death as 5:30 a.m. and was certified by the local peace judge and the municipal secretary. It was issued within twelve hours of the incident. The related judicial file remains missing, no trial was ever held and the survivors kept a low public profile. A recent reconstruction dramatizes the scene, showing the mayor being summoned by civil guard officers to certify the deaths.
