Cecina Coast Seizure of Over 300 kg Cocaine from Motorboat

Italian Coast Guard units patrolling the Tuscan coast intercepted a motorboat near Cecina after a high‑speed chase. The vessel was forced onto the beach at Tombolo, where the two occupants abandoned the craft and fled on foot.

Officials recovered 288 tightly packed bales, totaling more than 300 kilograms of nearly pure cocaine, hidden under tarpaulins on the boat. The seized boat and cargo were taken to port for examination. The investigation, coordinated by the Livorno public prosecutor, involves the Carabinieri, the Finance Guard and other law‑enforcement agencies, which are working to identify the suspects, trace the route of the shipment and determine its origin.

No details on the cargo’s destination, the nationality of the traffickers or the economic value of the haul have been released.
