Cedae and Vassouras partner to restore 15 hectares of Atlantic Forest

Cedae and the municipality of Vassouras have launched a partnership to restore 15 hectares of degraded Atlantic Forest in the Vale do Café region. The project, which covers an area equivalent to 21 football fields, began with an inaugural planting of 100 seedlings at Mirante Imperial.

The restoration initiative utilizes seedlings from the ‘Replantando Vida’ program, which combines reforestation efforts with the social reintegration of individuals serving criminal sentences. These native species are produced at a Cedae nursery located in the Luis Fernandes Bandeira Duarte Penitentiary in Resende.

While the initial phase involves small-scale planting, larger operations are scheduled to begin in October to coincide with the rainy season. The partnership also aims to provide seedlings to increase urban arborization within Vassouras, contributing to water resource conservation and biodiversity protection.
