Cedae suspends Guandu System production for summer maintenance

The Companhia Estadual de Águas e Esgotos do Rio de Janeiro (Cedae) suspended water production at the Guandu System on Tuesday morning to perform preventive maintenance. The operation aims to prepare the treatment station for increased consumption during the summer months.

The maintenance involves 500 employees working across more than 100 fronts to conduct inspections, cleaning, and repairs, including the installation of a large-scale macrometer. While technical services were scheduled to conclude by early Wednesday morning, some residents in the Rio de Janeiro metropolitan area and the Baixada Fluminense continue to face water shortages.

Water supply is being restored gradually, a process that can take up to 72 hours to fully normalize, particularly in elevated areas or at the ends of distribution networks. Affected regions include the capital city and the municipalities of Belford Roxo, Duque de Caxias, Mesquita, Nilópolis, Nova Iguaçu, Queimados, and São João de Meriti. The Guandu System is responsible for supplying approximately 9 million people.
