Cedar bike pump track opens to honor BMX executive
A new bike pump track has officially opened in Cedar, British Columbia, near the Cedar Community Secondary School. The facility was completed by the Stevie Smith Legacy Foundation with support from local business donations and a $25,000 contribution from the Nanaimo Port Authority.
The track was established to honor the legacy of Mike Davidson, a longtime BMX executive and former chief operating officer with the Nanaimo Port Authority. The opening ceremony included a welcome from Snuneymuxw First Nation elders and an honorary flag lap held in Davidson's memory.
Located beside the Cedar Skate Park on Nanaimo Ladysmith Public Schools land, the track is part of the broader Cedar Community Park expansion. The Regional District of Nanaimo (RDN) will manage and maintain the facility, with costs covered through the Electoral Area A Community Parks and Halls operating budget.
